Saturday Update 5/4/13

Hello…Hope everyone had a great week and an awesome Saturday. It was a crazy weather week here with 80’s Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday then SNOW on Thursday and Friday. Today was a damp, cool overcast day and had to run the heaters most of the day….in May! This last week for homework I had the lower and upper Memorial Box overlays, the mid lid and top lid overlays for the Memorial Box, the lower and upper brackets for the Memorial Box, the side and front head overlays for the Anniversary clocks and a wedding gift. I made it through all of these except half the Anniversary clock head front overlay and half of the wedding gift….so a very productive week.
My Saturday started with making a princess wand for my Granddaughter…..Tammy bought her one last weekend and the dog knocked it out of her hand and shattered it so papa saved the day. Then I had special helper come over and help me today….Kishna, my Daughter. I am working on the Memorial Box for her Aunt and she came over to see it and help with it. It is a two story box. The lower box will be a sealed box for everyone to put notes and or knick knacks and the upper box with be for her Urn. I suggested Kishna cut out some small hearts for the kids to decorate and the adults can write a short message on. My motive being that way I could show her how to scroll saw….and she did a wonderful job. I didn’t get much done during that time…..too busy watching and smiling. After she got them (21 of them) cut out, I showed her how to sand them. We also got all the lower and upper overlays sanded and glued on. I learned something very important today at the shop….and if you never listen to any other tip I throw out, remember this one….It’s not about how much sawdust you make, but the memories you make while making the sawdust. There are alot of wonderful memories in that shop, but today ranks right up towards the top. Thanks for a special day at the shop Kishna…..

The fish photo is a project that I made for Kishna and is a pattern I downloaded off the Internet. If anyone is interested in it I will direct you in the right direction. It is Willow on Poplar with a sparkly orange fabric backing.
After she left, I sanded and put on the side overlays for both of the Anniversary clock head sections. I also assembled the upper lid for the Box. Then I prepped up the wood for the brackets and crowns for the head sections that will be homework this week. Then I cleaned up and called it a day. Next week I hope to get most all of the remaining assembly done for the boxes. All that is left to cut out is the floor/lids edge trimming and the name/date piece. I’d also like to get the front overlays and head brackets glued on the Anniversary clocks. This project is getting close and I’m excited about making it available to everyone.
Unfortunately not a lot of progress on the mini clock book this week but I hope to get some work done on it this week so we can get it to the printer. As a reminder, all the pages are up on the website for the free clock. Also all these Updates will be available through the website. Go to the bottom of the home page and click on more at the end of the posted update and it will take you to our new blog page where you will be able to go back and access all my updates (still in the process of posting the old Updates). Also be sure and check out all the approved vendors from the website. Oh yeah almost forgot….I survived the race last Sunday. Doing the running races for all these years (33 years) have been fun and it was a good race to go out on. Hope everyone has a good Sunday and a great week next week…..and as always…Keep the Saw Dust Flyin’….
