Saturday Update 8/10/13

Hello….hope everyone had a great Saturday and a productive week last week. It was a good week here that felt more like September than it did August. I was able to get most of my homework done this week which included the top and bottom panels for the Coggon Clock, the backer for the faces for the Anniversary Clocks and 1/2 of the top board for the faces. The weather Saturday was clear with a cooler dryer north breeze and a high around 80*. Shop was very comfortable.

Saturday Update 8/3/13

Hello….hope everyone had a good week and a great Saturday. It was a bit on the muggy side here today. We have had storms on and off most of the week…it was only mid 80’s though. Over the week I was able to get a portion of my homework done in between getting orders filled. Talked to several of you this week….enjoyed that. We also want to welcome anyone new to the weekly update….there are several this week. This is a weekly update on my current projects and how I assemble them. I try to throw in some good tips along the way or any helpful links to websites….it is laid back with me just being me and trying to keep it fun. Hope you enjoy….

Saturday Update 7/27/13

Hello….hope everyone had a great week and an awesome Saturday. It was an incredible day here both weather wise and at the shop. It was mid to upper 70’s with a nice breeze all day and very little humidity. Again this week I wasn’t able to work on any of my homework for the week…too many summer things to do.

Today was an important day in Wilckens Woodworking history. Today is the day WWW moved into the next phase of it’s existence and longevity. I sensed it last week but I felt it fully this week…..the entire shop buzzed with the energy from it. I know Dad felt it too because when I looked over at his picture he was smiling. Kyle started his new clock today. He did an amazing job and got a lot of it cut out…..but we will talk about that in a bit. He has been doing some design work this last week as well….he thinks outside of the box like I do….so look out!     🙂

Saturday Update 7/20/13

Hello….hope everyone had a great week and a good Saturday. It was a warm week here and I didn’t feel the best on and off…leading to very little homework being finished this week. I made 2 cuts. But I did get the lighthouse finished up. The flocking went well and looks good. The sage green was the perfect color. One of the most key things with the flocking is a good masking job. A little extra time here will save you grief down the road. I started by putting masking tape in bordering the outside of what I wanted to mask around my door area. Once I got this I put the internal pieces of tape in, trimmed it out and removed the outer guide pieces. Then I masked the lower hole under the floor and around the top of the box. I won’t get into the details of the flocking process here but if you have questions about it I will be more than happy to walk you through it. I took it in to work this week and it seemed to be a big hit with everyone who saw it. I have a few changes to make to the pattern and then it will be available….roughly 2 weeks.

Saturday Update 7/13/13

Hello….hope everyone is having a great Saturday. It was a short shop day for me today because of a function later. I got to the shop earlier than usual this morning and it was still cooler out but warmed up quick. This week Tammy & I celebrated our 32nd wedding Anniversary. Amazing anyone could put up with me that long….Mom has to since I’m her kid….you know what they say….only a Mom could Love’em! Thanks for an amazing 32+ years Tam….I Love You! Now for a fun fact…Dirk & Karen Boelman were getting married at exactly the same time Tam & I were. How crazy is that? Happy Anniversary Dirk & Karen. (For those of you that don’t know Dirk & Karen (do you live under a rock?) visit them at http://theartfactory.com )

Saturday Update 7/6/13

Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th Holiday and your weekend is off to a good start. We had a wonderful day with family, fun, grilling and fireworks. I would like to have a 100th of what was spent in our neighborhood alone! I hope everyone took a minute to appreciate the reason for the holiday and everyone over the years that allow us to enjoy it. THANKS GUYS!!!!

Whew….what a day! It was warm here with temps in the low 90’s and the fans struggled today. Glad Mom went out early and got things opened up. Thanks Mom. Got all my homework done this week….which was to finish the tower rock overlays (sure glad I stack cut) and all the fencing. The fencing was a lot of fun to cut out and went real quick.

Saturday Update 6/22/13

Hello to everyone this Saturday. Hope everyone had a good and productive week and got some good shop time today. Here today it was warm, lower 90’s but there was some breeze so the fans kept it reasonable. I’d rather have sweat running down my back than have to blow on my fingers to get the feeling back. For homework this week I had the brick overlays and got about 3/4 of them cut out. That was alot of rectangles to cut out! I finished that up as soon as I got to the shop.

Saturday Update 6/15/13

Hello and Happy Saturday to everyone. This week I need to start by wishing all the Dad’s out there a very Happy Father’s Day! Hope everyone gets some quality time with their Dad and all the Dad’s get some quality time with their kids. As you all know, my Dad played a very important roll in my life and taught me the values and skills that have made me who I am. I Love you Dad. Also I am very lucky to have some wonderful Sons and Daughter….I Love you guys also!

Last week I took a well needed long weekend vacation, but was almost a full 2 weeks of woodworking vacation. A nice little recharge and the timing was perfect with NO current projects under way. I did design during that 2 weeks though. More on that in a bit. We went to Branson in the Ozarks and there usually is plenty of fretwork to see in the different shops. But this time….seems intarsia has a leg up on us. Come on guys….we gotta keep Fretwork alive and well…!

Saturday Update 6/1/13

Hello….hope everyone had a good week and a great Saturday! Good Saturday on this end…it was a soggy week though. Rain most every day with 5″ on Thursday and Friday alone. Today was nice though with sun early then clouds later, but good and warm. Over the week I was able to cut out 1 1/2 of the 2 remaining lower pieces for the wall clock and also the roof panels for the WC. I also flocked the Memorial box and it turned out great. The top box is turquoise and the lower one is royal purple. Flocking…..ahh what can I say…..greatest stuff ever! I won’t go into how to info here because I have several times but if anyone has questions about it just e-mail me and I’ll Share my Love for it with you. I have an idea for a new flocking project and it I can get it to work…..it completely changes life as we know it…..more to come. 🙂 (I’d flock one of the dogs if Tammy would let me)

Saturday Update 5/25/13

Hello hope everyone is enjoying a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend. We should start this week by taking a moment to honor and remember those who have gone ahead of us…..also the brave Men and Women who defend this great nation of our and allow us to be able to enjoy the freedoms we enjoy….Thank You!

This week I took a couple extra vacation days from the primary job to stretch the weekend into a 5 day weekend and since we had a wedding for an extended family member today, I made my sawdust on Friday this week. I had a few stops to make early then made it to the shop around one. This week was dedicated to working on the Anniversary Clocks. Over the week I cut out the brackets for the Wall Clock and one of the lower backs for the Wall Clock. Once I got to the shop I prepped the wood for the roof panels for both clocks, the Wall Clock being a glue-up.
